Justice League of America’s Vibe #6
For once I can say that Vibe was full of surprises. Were those surprises enough to change what I think is a story that I find hard to care for? Not to say the least, it just isn’t enough. Though I find the issue to be chaotic, and a bit clustered, it was surprising to say the least which is something I didn’t expect given it’s direction as of late.
If I were being honest the book does have a lot of potential, but overall I don’t think his connection to A.R.G.U.S. is really helping bring any appeal to his character. If this were a solo book, I’d rather Vibe be off on his own and explore his character without the interference of an organization that seems one-dimensional. We know what to expect from A.R.G.U.S. and when any encounter with them is so predictable, it denies the hero who is mixed with them room to do something new. What I see from Vibe is someone who is just running and being taken advantage of by people who have been putting up the same front for years, and Waller isn’t someone you ever care for as well. Only difference between him and others is that he’s fighting back and even then we all know that leads to disaster.
Going back to saying this felt chaotic, that’s really how it was. It felt like a bunch of shock was thrown into this story and it really didn’t last in any way which made it important. I finish reading this issue and sit there wondering “Was that it?”.
With that said, it seems this book might still have something to pick up from, though right now it’s his connection to A.R.G.U.S. which I believe is weighing him down. I think that Sterling Gates needs to find a way to conclude this story in a way that Vibe can move on to a new chapter in his life and do so in a way that we the readers will still care to pick up the book afterwards.
