Catwoman #21
The Penguin has stepped up his game. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but Nocenti makes him very convincing when he’s angry. Last issue, Catwoman struck a blow to his ego that made him furious. Stole from him and then put one of his men out of commission. If there’s one thing she can’t help, it’s pissing off the wrong people and not thinking of the consequences.
Very interesting character development for Catwoman because Ann Nocenti makes her seem pretty selfish at first, yet now she is someone that cares about the citizens. Again that robin hood like persona where she fights the rich and tries to give back to the poor, aside from whats in it for her that is. You see how just her aiding the rat tails gives them an edge over Penguin and it makes her look all the better to the public when she’s not just being seen as one of the most wanted thieves. With that said, the story has fallen flat to a degree. Not because there isn’t much action, there surely was enough action, but I don’t find myself caring for this war. Neither the war or the people in particular that it centers around.
Not a bad issue, but you feel that it could be better. Maybe next issue, but till then the back and forth between both sides just doesn’t hold much interest till something actually happens to draw it closer to a finish or draw it to a finish because at this moment I can’t help but want this storyline to speed up. The art remains to be the most appealing part of this book so far, great use of shades and the colors are smooth. Hopefully it does not remain that way and the story picks up.
